The Oxballs Ergo Super Soft butt plug is the most unique butt plug that I have tried. It is the softest, squishiest plug I have ever had the pleasure of wearing. I adore the texture and softness of the Ergo.
The Oxballs Ergo plugs are also huge compared to average butt plugs. A relatively experienced user may see extra-small and balk at the idea that it could be a challenging plug – but it can be. The Extra-Small is reported as 1.3” in diameter (I measured it slightly larger, more on that below). This is closer to a medium butt plug in many other brands than the Ergo Medium is.

Design and Material
The Ergo plugs come in a small resealable zip-top bag.
The Ergo is made from pure platinum silicone and is squishy and soft, yet only slightly tacky. The material is easy to clean, and it is (miraculously) not a dust or lint magnet. Oxballs describes it as “blubbery” – I’ve never felt blubber, but that sounds accurate. I would compare the feeling to a giant gummy bear or soft stress ball. Think of the best stress ball you’ve ever felt – and imagine something better. That is how squishy and soft the Oxballs super soft material is. The soft material feels amazing to the touch and when worn. The squish makes the size of the Oxballs easier to wear, but also more difficult to insert.
The kidney bean shape should give some weak prostate stimulation, but the soft material may dampen that. I don’t have a prostate, so I can’t personally speak to how it actually feels.
The Ergo in Super Soft Smoke features a beautiful swirly dark base with metallic shimmer. Both plugs are stamped at the base – the extra-small is stamped “puppy”, while the medium is stamped “beagle.” The Ergo plugs are easy to clean with soap and water, and it can be boiled or run through an empty dishwasher. The stamp at the base of the toy is the only part of the toy that has posed any difficulties with cleaning.
Oxballs Ergo Plugs are Larger Than You Might Expect
The Oxballs Ergo plugs are larger than you may expect. For example, the Doc Johnson Mood Naughty Large is 1.25” in diameter, while the CalExotics Anal Exerciser Kit includes a medium butt plug that is 1.25” in diameter.
The Tantus Noob, measuring in at 1.1” in diameter (3.34” in circumference) is closer to what I would truly consider an “extra-small” plug. In comparison, the Oxballs Ergo XS is much larger. Across a number of “mini” sized plugs from NS Novelties and Pipedream, the width of these plugs ranges between 0.87” – 1.0”. Squarepegtoys XS Egg Plug is most similar in size to the Ergo XS.
The diameter of the medium Oxballs Ergo plug deviates even more from other “medium” plugs. Looking at the measurements of 22 medium butt plugs, I found the average width to be 1.4” in diameter. Four medium plugs that are similar in width are Tom of Finland Medium Plug, Tantus Medium Severin, Blush Rump Rimmer, and Blush Spark Plug. These are anal plugs that are best suited for those who are experienced with anal toys.
I measured the girth of both the XS and M plugs as slightly girthier than reported by Oxballs. I am unsure if “usable width” (as reported by Oxballs) is measured differently, but the XS measured in with a circumference of 4.53” (115 mm) and a diameter of 1.5” (38 mm), while the M measured in with a circumference of 6.69” (170 mm) and a diameter of 2.2” (56 mm).
The neck of the Ergo plugs is relatively wide – the XS has a neck circumference of 2.75” (70 mm), and length of 0.4” (10 mm) while the M has a neck circumference of 4” (100 mm) and length of 0.8” (20 mm). The Ergo’s thick neck makes it less comfortable for long-term wear than a thin neck, but the neck is squishy and comfortable when worn. The thick neck does make the Oxballs Ergo an excellent choice for stretching your sphincters to accommodate larger toys.
The Oxballs Ergo features a flanged T-bar base, but it is somewhat round and wide. The base of the Ergo XS is 3.19” (81 mm) long and 1.9” (48 mm) wide. The base of the Ergo M is 4” (103 mm) long and 2.3” (58 mm) wide. The base is slightly asymmetrical, and the way I insert the plug (with the tip facing upwards) means that the longer end of the plug tilts towards my vulva. The width of the flanged base of the XS is comparable to the round base of the Tantus Noob, but the material is squishy and compresses.
Ease of Use
The ergonomic design and material of the Ergo plugs makes them comfortable to wear, which is important if you intend to wear one for an extended amount of time. The squishy material makes it easier to accommodate the larger girth and relatively thick neck. In general, you should still really pay attention to the sizes of these plugs: the material feels more comfortable, but that doesn’t negate the size.
Oxballs recommends water-based lube, but the website says it is safe with hybrid, silicone, and oil-based lubes.
It might be difficult to insert these plugs precisely because they are so squishy, though it feels wonderful once you get the plug in. There is less pressure with the super soft Oxballs material, which means that some forms of stimulation – like prostate stimulation – will be weaker than with firmer plugs. The plug is barely tapered at the top, which adds to the difficulties with insertion. I recommend warming up with a firmer anal toy before trying to insert the plug, as insertion is the most difficult part of using the Ergo.
I wouldn’t recommend these for use during PIV intercourse due to the T-bar base. Depending on your anatomy, the XS might be short enough for this to be comfortable, but the larger sizes may pose a challenge. Another possible anatomy-related issue is the width of the T-bar base. The base is a T-bar, but it is still round and wide, with the XS measuring at 1.9” wide and the M measuring 2.3” wide.
Does it do what it says?
What does Oxballs say about it?
“ERGO is a super smooth silicone buttplug designed for comfort. Its kidney bean shape and tapered neck are designed to keep ERGO snugly in place. It’s made from high quality Pure Platinum Silicone so it’s blubbery and flesh-like, perfect for comfortable insertion. Each ERGO buttplug is hand poured in our factory so no two plugs alike. It’s available in 5 sizes ranging from beginner to advanced hole-stretcher.”
I agree with the description given by Oxballs However, I would emphasize that the smallest size is not beginner friendly. The plugs are indeed comfortable, though insertion is a bit more difficult than with a firmer butt plug.
Should you buy this?
The Ergo is more expensive than most butt plugs (surely in part due to the size), but the squish makes it worth it. I highly recommend the Ergo, but I believe it would be particularly good for…
- Someone who wants a butt plug that is squishy and smooth textured. I personally love how soft the Ergo is.
- Someone who wants to wear a butt plug for the purpose of stretching. The Ergo plug is much more comfortable than firmer plugs.
- Someone who has some experience with butt plugs and anal stretching. I wouldn’t recommend these to an absolute beginner due to a) the girth of even the XS plug b) the large differences in girth between toys. I don’t think you have to be an expert user, but the girth and squishiness pose challenges for insertion. This probably shouldn’t be your first butt plug.
- Someone who loves girthy toys. The Ergo plugs are very girthy, but they’re also soft and comfortable.
Where to purchase
I purchased both the Oxballs Ergo XS and M from Peepshow Toys. Both toys are part of the Peepshow Toys FedEx 2-Day Shipping collection, and they both arrived within two days.
